1917 cover to the USA with a 2½d cancelled by a KINGSTON AP 3 17 roller canceller. The cover has been opened and resealed at the top by the very rare ‘OPENED BY AN OFFICER / OF THE POST OFFICE BY / EXPRESS WARRANT OF / THE GOVERNOR’ tape. One can only assume, that as it was during WW1, the authorities must have had a good reason to suspect that either the sender or the recipient were German agents. Roughly opened at the base but extremely rare tape.
