STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. 1939 censored cover sent air mail to San Francisco, USA, with a 25c and pair of 10c cancelled SINGAPORE 1 SE 1939. This is the day War broke out in Europe. The cover has a ‘PASSED BY CENSOR’ label that has been tied by a violet boxed ‘PASSED BY / 5 / CENSOR’ handstamp on both the front and back. Considering that WWII had only just broken out a few hours earlier, an exceptionally early censored cover!
