1837 (5 October) folded consular mail letter to Tunis, endorsed ‘I. R. Consulate Austriaco Malta’ and ‘Franco’ with a good strike of the very scarce straight line MALTA POST OFFICE’ (MPO 2a – 43 x 3mm recorded used from 5 May 1834 to 1839) h/s. This handstamp has been underlined in the same colour crayon as the ‘Franco’ suggesting the Austrian P.O. in Tunis was not to charge any postage. The letter has two disinfectant chisel slits. A birds feather was inside the letter! A rare and early official mail letter.
