1941 folded ‘Return of Stocks of Essential Commodities’ letter by a shopkeeper in St Angelo Street, Sliema,(showing how short Malta was of food supplies, this shop having no butter, lard, margarine, edible oils, corned beef, tea wheat or tomato paste) dated 30th April 1941 that was in the Sliema Post Office when it was bombed by Italian and German planes early in May 1941. A label has been attached that states “Delayed through damage at Sliema Branch Post Office by enemy action”. This has been tied by a VALETTA AU 8 41 canceller. By early May 1941, the Luftwaffe had flown 1,465 bombing missions against Malta! This letter was delayed by 100 days. This label is rare and very seldom seen.
