1810 letter to France headed Isle de France 11 Fructidor An 10. A COLONIES PAR / L’ORIENT h/s is on the front of the letter with a m/s ‘5’. The French postal administration in Mauritius at that time had no postal markings. The Island was captured by the British on 3 December 1810 during the Napoleonic Wars and ceded to Britain by the French in the Treaty of Paris in 1814. A scarce letter from the French period of colonization.
