1836 folded letter to Calcutta headed Port Louis, October 21st, that was sent by the Captain of the brig ‘George Gardiner, out of Philadelphia with an inventory of the goods he was carrying and his request to sell them on arrival in Calcutta. On the back is a Calcutta DEC 3 1836 arrival cancel. The letter was carried by favor of Captain Wilson of the ship ‘Victoria’. Interesting goods being carried, including 29,000 foot of fine boards, 200 barrels of flour, 100 barrels of pitch, 15 barrels of tobacco leaf etc. Some splitting cross a fold at the left of the letter, not apparent unless opened out.
