1853 outer wrapper to Edinburgh with a red crown circle PAID AT NELSON, NEW ZEALAND h/s on the front, along with a red ‘4’ and a black ‘1/4’. The red ‘4’ denotes 4d prepaid, for a double weight letter. As of April 1 1851 the rate was 2d per ½ oz. This was indicated ‘paid’ by the crown circle h/s. The black 1/4 is the amount to be paid on delivery by the recipient. A Nelson DE 8 1853 cancel is on the back along with an APR 10 1854 arrival cancel. A crease from being refolded is at the foot of the wrapper, otherwise a scarce item with the Nelson crown circle (S.G. CC2 - £1100)
