1872 envelope to Switzerland with three 3d each stamp tied by the large ‘W’ obliterator of WAIMEA, a goldfields town on the west coast of the South Island. The cover went via San Francisco on the 12th sailing of the “Nebraska” that departed Auckland 24 March 72. On the back of the cover, which has part of the backflap missing, are HOKITIKA MR 16 72, Nelson and Lugarno 17 V 72 transit and arrival cancels. A London 13 MY 72 transit cancel is on the front. R.P.S. certificate which states two stamps have marginal defects. These are insignificant! A very rare cover from Waimea, particularly going to Switzerland via the San Francisco route. Ex Hackmey.
