1844 folded letter sent internal to Wellington, endorsed ‘Free’ at the lower left, with a very reasonable strike of the extremely rare red boxed ‘PAID AT / KORORARIKA / N. Z. A NEW ZEALAND JA 22 1844 datestamp is on the letter along with a WELLINGTON FE 2 1844 crown within an oval datestamp. According to the book Postage Stamps of New Zealand, Volume 7, only four items have been recorded with this KORORARIKA h/s, of which three are in archives (two in England and one in Wellington). This one wasn’t recorded in their write up. An extremely rare item being one of only two available to collectors.
