ARO FIELD FORCE. 1902 cover to Dundee endorsed ‘On Active Service / Stamps not Obtainable’ with an OPOBO RIVER FE 26 02 cancellation. At the lower left a ‘P.R. / M.O. AFF / Equetta’ is the endorsement of P Rattray, Medical Officer for the Aro Field Force at Equetta. The Aro War started in November 1901 with a Battle in the Oguta area. Further battles in December, January and February finally culminated in the Battle of Bende in March 1902 when the Aro were defeated. The Aro Expedition ended three weeks later. A fine cover from this little known conflict that helped the British open up the interior of the country.
