1899 cover to Scotland, readdressed on arrival, endorsed ‘Active Service West Africa’ and ‘No Stamps Available’, that has been taxed at Plymouth on arrival. On the back of the cover is a violet boxed BURUTU 17 OCT 1899 datestamp where it entered the postal system. An Edinb. & Newcastle Sorting Tender NO 11 99 c.d.s. is also on the back of the cover. This cover would have been sent by a member of the West African Frontier Force. Some vertical creasing, most probably from the cover having been folded while in the soldiers’ pocket prior to mailing.
