1859 small cover to London with a strip of three 3d, large margins all round, the last one bisected to pay the 7½d rate, lightly tied by barred obliterators. A HALIFAX NOVA SCOTIA AP 8 1859 dispatch cancel is on the back, red London AP 19 59 cancels are on both the front and back of the cover. The letter was carried on the Cunard Line ‘Niagara’ that left Boston on April 6th and arrived in Halifax on April 8th, arriving in Liverpool on April 18th. The 7½d rate to England was introduced in August 1854 and the bisecting of 3d stamps to pay the 1½d was authorised by the post office. A fine and rare cover.
