1898 ½d post card sent internally to Bethulie cancelled by the scarce VILJOENSDRIFT 27 DE 98 canceller with another strike alongside (year inverted and shows as 86, but this canceller only came into use in 1898). The card was written on the train near Springfontein according to the message and he apologizes for his handwriting as the train was shaking!! Viljoensdrift is in the northern Free State just south of the Vaal River. In the 1890’s it was a very small village.
