BOMB DAMAGED. 1942 cover that is water damaged and showing signs of fire damage, addressed to a sailor on H.M.M.S. 1087 (a mine sweeper) with the stamp washed off, cancelled WEYMOUTH 22 MAY 1942. On the back of the cover is a black bomb with ‘DELAYED BY ENEMY ACTION’ surrounding it, and a violet straight line ‘DAMAGED BY ENEMY ACTION’. The cover was sent to London and then returned to Weymouth and was damaged in the large air raid by German bombers on May 28th that badly damaged the city. A very desirable cover and a rare combination of these two cachets.
