Postal Incident - Bomb damaged mail

Ref: G3810
  • £140.00

BOMB DAMAGED MAIL. 1943 censored envelope to Crowborough, Sussex, with a PASSED BY CENSOR FROM H. M. SHIP cachet on the front that is dated 3rd May 1943. On the back of the cover is an Officially Sealed in London label, along with a straight line DAMAGED BY ENEMY ACTION handstamp. This, in all probability was also applied in London, the cover being part of mail damaged in an air raid over Southern England. As there were a number of German air raids in early May 1943, it is not possible to identify a specific one.
