BOMBING OF THE GARE des ORIENTAUX, SALONICA, GREECE. On 30 August 1917, German bombers based in Bulgaria attacked the Gare es Orientaux in Salonica setting fire to the buildings and two postal wagons. Most of the mail that was burned and severely damaged was from French soldiers and addressed to France. A blue single line cachet was applied to the damaged mail ‘INCENDIE WAGON POSTE’.
