SAN FRANCISCO EARTHQUAKE. 1906 cover to Cleveland, Ohio sent unstamped with a SAN FRANCISCO APR 25 1906 cancel on the front. A Cleveland APR 29 06 arrival c.d.s. is on the back. The earthquake struck at 5.12 a.m. on April 18. Up to 3000 people were killed and 80% of the City destroyed. From 18th April to 26th April mail could be sent free of charge if posted within the City. A fine example of this free post, the cover being sent the day before the free post ended. Accompanying the cover is a post card showing the fire that devastated the city.
