MAIL CAPTURED BY THE GERMANS. 1916 censored cover from Kobenhaven 11.12.16 to Manchester that was on the Danish ship S S VIDAR that was intercepted during the night of 2/13 December 1916 and taken into Swinemude by the German navy. She was on her way from Copenhagen to Hull at the time of her interception carrying a cargo of agricultural products and mail. The ship was released on 15 January 1917. The cover was censored by both the Germans and the British and has had a small explanatory label affixed ‘Part of a Mail captured / by the Germans and / delayed’. An uncommon incident.
