1907 1d postal card to Germany endorsed at the top ‘Shangani Siding S. Rhodesia’ and cancelled by a superb strike of the SHANGANI NO 2 07 datestamp. A long message is written in German. Between Bulawayo and Gwelo, Shangani was the scene of the Battle of Shangani on 4 December 1893 in the First Matabele Rebellion. A patrol of 34 B.S.A.P. soldiers under the command of Major Alan Wilson was massacred by over 3000 Matabele warriors. There were no survivors. A fine card.
