A violet boxed ‘POSTAGE FREE / BASE 4 N. RHODESIA, Passed by CENSOR’ cachet with the ‘4’ altered in manuscript to ‘1’. KASAMA SE 16 N.E. RHODESIA and ARMY POST OFFICE / 2 / 4 SEP 16 / NORTHERN RHODESIA datestamps are on the card along with the handstamp of the commanding officer, Lt. Henniker Gotley to validate the free postage. An exceptionally rare card from a soldier in the Northern Rhodesia Police, one of only two known with the Base 4 altered to Base 1 and one of only seven covers or cards recorded bearing the Army Post Office 2 datestamp.
