1907 S S KRONPRINZ WILHELM. In July 1907, an incident happened to mail on the Norddeutscher Lloyd ship the S S KRONPRINZ WILHELM either when sailing across the Atlantic, or more probably when off loading the mail in London. This picture post card (Niagara Falls in winter) posted in Toronto on July 15th has had the stamp washed off and a triangular I.S. cachet applied where the stamp should have been and a violet boxed cachet ‘DAMAGED BY IMMERSION / IN SEA WATER … I.S.’ applied. This appears to be the card written about in Hoggarth & Gwynn. This could possibly be the only recorded item from this incident.
