M V’ THALA DAN’ 1960. The Danish motor vessel Thala Dan sailed from Melbourne on 10 January 19060 with supplies and mail for the Australian Antarctic Territory, arriving at Mawson on January 25. She was there until February 16, and after leaving sprang some plates that allowed water to enter the hold where, amongst other things, were parcels and a bag of mail, virtually all philatelic. Damaged mail received a two line ‘DAMAGED BY / WATER cachet. This cover to Canada is one of very few known commercial covers from this incident.
