Ship Incident

1842 Money Letter to London, endorsed ‘Paid Per Halifax Steamship’ with a HALIFAX MAR 23 1842 dispatch cancel on the front. It probably went overland to Halifax and when it sailed it broke a shaft 400 miles out of Halifax so did not go via Boston. It sailed for Liverpool under canvas, arriving in London on April 20th, so quite seriously delayed. A rare letter from this incident, not recorded by Hoggarth & Gwynn.
