R.M.S. LABRADOR. 1899 Canada 1c postal card to Belgium that was on the “Labrador” that left Halifax on 21 February bound for Liverpool. At 7 a.m. on 1st March the steamer was wrecked on the Mackenzie Rock, near Skerryvore lighthouse in the Hebrides in dense fog. Passengers and crew were saved by the Norwegian steamer “Viking”. Recovered mail was handled at Glasgow. This 1c card from Deloraine, Manitoba, was posted on February 15th. It received a boxed two line violet cachet ‘DAMAGED BY IMMERSION / IN SEA WATER’ and has a Glasgow MR 10 99 cancel. It arrived at its’ destination in Belgium on the 12th March. A good example of mail from this wreck.
