Singapore / G.B. - Stolen Mail

STOLEN MAIL. 1953 cover to England endorsed ‘Forces Air Mail’ with a 2½d cancelled F. P. O. 965 NO 11 53. In November 1953 a consignment of mail was found under the floorboards of a British Army embarkation building in Singapore Docks. It appears that most of the mail had been posted in troop transports that had put in at Singapore. Many of the letters were several months old. An army sergeant was arrested and court-martialed on December 14 1953. More letters were found at his home. A label is on the back stating ‘It is regretted that this letter has been delayed abroad' and a Home Postal Depot R. E. 16 NO 53 datestamp applied. A very rare letter from this incident.
