1929 cover to Worcester, Cape, with a 1d cancelled by the scarce VERNEUK PAN V P N MR 23 29 temporary datestamp. Verneuk Pan in a remote part of the North-Western Cape was chosen as the place that Captain Malcolm Campbell would try and break the world land speed record in his car ‘Blue Bird’. A special field post office was set up to handle mail with Mr G N Grey in charge. The post office opened on 8 February and closed on 26 April. This cover has been truncated slightly at the left, but a fine example of this scarce cancellation. .
