1915 post card to Natal with a green triple oval ‘HOSPITAL SHIP ‘EBANI’ / 15 FEB 1915 / S. A. EXPEDITIONARY FORCE cachet and an ARMY BASE P. O. ‘1’ 19 FEB 15 datestamp. A ‘Postage Free / Passed Censor’ cachet is also on the card. The message states that ‘We are anchored at Walfish Bay indefinitely’. The writer appears to be a nurse, sister or a medical staff member on the ‘Ebani’ The S S Ebani was the only South African Hospital ship, equipped to carry 300 – 400 patients and was manned by British and South African crew with 13 nurses and sisters and 36 members of the Royal Natal Medical Corps. An exceptionally rare card from this Hospital Ship, and the only one I have ever seen!!
