1833 folded letter to Boston, USA, headed ‘Ship Clifford Wayne, St. Helena, October 15 1833’. The letter has been charged with a black m/s ‘2/8d’. A boxed PORTSMOUTH SHIP LETTER is on the front of the letter and a London FE 8 34 datestamp on the back. A red New York Ship Letter FEB 22 and a rare oval ‘Returned for Postage’ h/s are on the front of the letter with a 58½c postage due charge mark. Interesting contents regarding their trying to buy tea, sugar, coffee, pepper and hemp in Batavia, Canton, Manila, Singapore and Padang. Fine.
