The letter has been countersigned at the lower left corner by the Commanding Officer. An arrival cancel of MAY 26 98 is on he back of the cover. H.M.S. Rambler was an Algerine-Class gunvessel that was launched in 1880 and was commissioned as a survey vessel in 1884. She served in the far east and the West Indies before being used as a transport vessel for British troops in the Boer War. Fine and uncommon.
