1896 1 Anna Soldiers' and Seamen's Envelope to Ferozepore, India, from an Indian soldier in the Dongola Expedition, cancelled BASE OFFICE 'B' 14 JUL 96. The envelope has been correctly endorsed by V. Hughes, Lieut. Adjutant 35 Sikhs, to enable the sender to get the concession rate. Sea Post Office AU 3 and Ferozepore 11 AU transit and arrival cancels are on the back. The Dongola Expedition was led by General Herbert Kitchener and defeated the Madhist forces at the Battle of Ferkeh near Dongola on 7 June 1896. The Expedition force mainly consisted of British and Egyptian soldiers and a letter written by a Sikh is uncommon.
