1837 outer pages of a letter journal to the Wesleyan Missionary Society, London, written from ‘Leifuka, Friendly Island’s, that was carried on the ship Raiatea to Sydney where it entered the postal system. A red crown PAID SHIP LT, SYDNEY DE 11 1837 h/s was applied and the letter then sailed on the ship ‘Louisa’ on 22 MAY 1838. A red boxed INDIA LETTER PLYMOUTH is on the back of the letter and a m/s 1/3d on the front ,being the 4d India letter rate and 11d inland cost from Plymouth to London. Fine and very scarce.
