1905 CUDWORTH, BARNSLEY. A cover from Edinburgh to Market Harborough with a 1d cancelled JA 18 05 that has a manuscript note on the front ‘Found on permanent way at / Cudworth after accident 19. 1. 05’ The collision occurred in thick fog in the early hours of 19th January when the Scotland to London express ploughed into the Leeds to Sheffield train. The train had 12 sleeper carriages most of which left the rails and rolled down the embankment. They all caught alight, killing 7 passengers. A very rare cover, one of only two recorded, both with the same manuscript explanation.
