. 1906 burned post card posted at Spalding at 7 p.m. SP 19 to Derby that was in the train derailment at Grantham at 11.00 p.m. that night. This card would have been put on the train at Peterborough and should have been taken off at Grantham when the train stopped there and transferred to the Nottingham train. Very few items are known from this incident that killed twelve people, and recovered mail shows signs of both fire and water damage. Recovered mail known has either a cachet ‘GRANTHAM / RLY ACCIDENT’ or manuscript markings. This is the only known item with a printed explanatory label. ‘DAMAGED BY FIRE AND WATER, RESULT OF ACCIDENT TO MAIL TRAIN AT GRANTHAM ON 19th SEPTEMBER 1906.’ A very rare and desirable item from this train wreck
