HOLLAND. On the night of the 5th / 6th October 1952, the freight train from Martelaarsgracht to St Nicolaaskerk fell into the Damrak Canal after a steering failure caused the train to collide with the railing of a bridge over the canal. The driver and one passenger escaped and were rescued by police. Recovered mail was forwarded with an explanatory label. A receiving h/s shows the mail was delayed by three days.
