Train Crash Mail

Ref: K3933
  • £175.00

1920 post card from Japan that was in a train fire in a storage car on Train No. 56 on the Chicago, Milwaukee, St Paul & Pacific Railroad around 1.30 a.m. on 17 January 1920. A four line explanatory cachet was applied as most of the mail was damaged and burnt. This card has been burned and has had the upper left corner re-attached. There was a considerable delay in recovering and forwarding the mail as the incident happened on January 17 and a St Paul Minn. transit cancel is only FEB 1 20 - two weeks later.
