1919 LUDWIGSLUST, GERMANY. On 14 April 1919 a fire started on a branch line at Ludwigslust on Train 32. This charred and water stained cover that has had the stamp washed off, to Bernburg, has a label attached that reads ‘Damaged by Fire on the Railway Postal Car in Train 32 from Wismar 14. April 1919. / Post Office Ludwigslust.’A Bernburg arrival cancel of 24.4.19 shows the incident must have been quite major as it took the letter 10 days to get to Bernburg after the fire, a distance of only 49 miles Very uncommon.
