1930 WENDE, NEAR BUFFALO, NY. On the morning of 10th October, a mail car on the New York & Chicago Railroad was badly damaged by fire, destroying virtually all the mail. Only two covers have been recorded and both have a three line explanatory cachet in violet ‘DAMAGED IN FIRE OF / STORAGE CAR NY & CHI / RPO 10 OCT 10 BATAVIA NY.’ This cover was mailed to Syracuse. A rare cover from this incident being one of the two known.
