1964 MACCLESFIELD. A damaged cover from Aberystwyth (8 JNE 1964) to London that was on the 10.27 p.m. Mayfield to Euston train on the night of 8th/9th June. A fire was discovered at Macclesfield and the damaged mail offloaded. On the back of this cover is a 5 line cachet ‘The Postmaster is very / sorry that this packet / has been accidentally / damaged/delayed in / the post.’ A violet MACCLESFIELD 11 JUN 64 datestamp is alongside. There is also an explanatory letter from the Head Postmaster, Macclesfield. Unrecorded by Hoggarth and Gwynn and possibly the only cover known from this incident.
