1919 PANAMA?. 1919 cover from Trinidad to Australia posted DE 3 19 and endorsed ‘card’ that arrived in Sydney on February 24th 1920. On the back of the cover is a two line cachet ‘DEMAGED BY FIRE IN / CHI & CBL, FS TR7.19..’ The second line is inverted !! The route from Trinidad to Australia would have been via Panama and one can only assume that this is where the incident happened. The Panama Canal Zone and the railway were American which would explain the similarity to American train incident cachets. As this is the only cover known from this incident, further details are sketchy, but considering the time taken for the cover to arrive in Australia (83 days) the incident must have been quite serious.
