1909 ORRICK, NEAR KANSAS CITY. On 24th July the Wabash passenger train No. 4 bound for St Louis plunged into the Missouri River at Orrick, 30 miles east of Kansas City after a section of the railway line was washed away by flood waters. Seven people were killed. The Rail Post Office Car was amongst those that went into the river. A straight line black cachet’ Damaged, Wab. Wreck’ was applied to salvaged mail. This cover from Kansas City, posted 24 JY to St. Louis has a fine example of this cachet.
