1863 cover to New York with a 6d cancelled with a MELBOURNE VICTORIA NO 25 63 duplex cancel. The cover was insufficiently paid to go via Europe which at that time would have been 9d. Instead a red boxed instructional mark INSUFFICIENTLY PAID / VIA THE / UNITED KINGDOM was applied and the cover sent via San Francisco where it received a MAR 7 1864 transit datestamp – so seriously delayed taking 102 days to get to San Fransisco. A SHIP 6 cachet is also on the cover. No New York receiving cancels. Minor edge faults but a very uncommon item, being rerouted due to insufficient payment..
