1855 cover to Kalk Bay, Cape of Good Hope, endorsed ‘P Lavinia via Mauritius’ with a 6d dull orange lightly tied by a barred ‘10/V’ of KILMORE, with a dispatch cancel of JY 18 1855 on the back. A manuscript ‘8’ pence due is on the cover front. A Melbourne JY JUL 28 transit cancel is on the back of the cover along with a CAPE TOWN NOV 10 1855 arrival datestamp. The Lavinia was a brig that departed Melbourne on July 28th and arrived in Cape Town, having sailed via Mauritius, on November 10th. A very rare destination for mail from Victoria.
