1886 cover to France, endorsed ‘Via Naples, per Orient Steamer “John Elder”,’ with a 4d magenta and a 6d chalky blue tied by a numeral ‘1’ in thin bars with a REGISTERED MELBOURNE MR 5 86 dispatch cancel on the back. The John Eldert departed Melbourne 6 March, arriving at Naples April 10th. Paris and Nantes 12 APR 86 backstamps. A most appealing cover.
